Tooth Extractions

Safe, Comfortable, and Well-Planned Care

Sometimes, a tooth may need to be removed due to severe decay, damage, or overcrowding. At our practice, we offer gentle, professional tooth extractions, including wisdom teeth extractions, to help improve your oral health.

If you’re facing a tooth extraction, we will guide you through every step of the process—from planning to execution—ensuring that you feel safe, well-informed, and confident. Our team will explain your options, answer any questions, and make sure you understand what to expect. We prioritize your comfort and aim to make the procedure as smooth and stress-free as possible.

Post-Operative Care After a Tooth Extraction

After your extraction, it’s important to follow these care instructions to help promote healing and avoid complications:

Bite on Gauze
Keep the gauze in place for 30–45 minutes after the procedure to help control bleeding. If bleeding continues, replace with fresh gauze and bite down gently.
Avoid Rinsing or Spitting
For the first 24 hours, avoid rinsing your mouth or spitting to prevent dislodging the blood clot that forms in the socket.
Rest
Take it easy for the first 24–48 hours. Avoid strenuous activities, as they can increase bleeding and swelling.
Manage Pain and Swelling
You may experience some discomfort and swelling. Apply an ice pack to the outside of your cheek for 15–20 minutes at a time. Over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen can help manage pain (follow the dosing instructions on the label).
Eat Soft Foods
Stick to soft foods like soups, yogurt, and mashed potatoes for the first few days. Avoid hot, spicy, or crunchy foods that can irritate the extraction site.
Keep the Area Clean
Gently brush your teeth, but avoid the extraction site for the first few days. After 24 hours, rinse your mouth with warm salt water (1/2 teaspoon salt in 8 oz of water) to keep the area clean and reduce swelling.
Watch for Complications
If you experience excessive bleeding, severe pain, fever, or signs of infection, contact our office immediately.

By following these post-operative care instructions, you can ensure a smooth recovery and help the extraction site heal properly. If you have any questions or concerns after your procedure, don’t hesitate to reach out to our team for guidance. We’re here to support you every step of the way.
