Why We Love Mum- Making Sure Mum and Bub Have Healthy Teeth
During pregnancy, it’s essential to make sure you care for your oral health. This protects your teeth and gums, and it helps to protect your baby too. When pregnant women have oral disease and especially advanced gum disease, it increases the risk of a preterm or low birthweight baby.
It is perfectly safe to receive routine dental care during pregnancy, and we recommend that mums-to-be come and see us as soon as they learn the happy news. In fact, if you are planning to have a baby, it’s better to have a checkup beforehand. This way, we can make sure your teeth and gums are in great shape before you conceive.
We take tremendous care of all our patients and especially mums. Our dentist can provide you with a tailor-made treatment plan to keep you smiling right throughout pregnancy. It is important because changes in hormonal levels can affect your oral health and a good preventative dental care plan can minimise the impact.
Once your baby is here, we strongly encourage you to book their first dental visit soon after they get their first tooth or by their first birthday. It is never too early to begin looking after their teeth.
